Manganese is widely distributed in nature and is contained in almost all kinds of ores and silicate rocks. In modern industry, manganese and its compounds are widely used in various economic fields, among which the steel industry is one of the most important fields.

Common manganese ores include manganese oxide ores and manganese carbonate ores.

1 manganese oxide ore

Manganese oxide ores are mainly secondary manganese oxide ores from weathered deposits, and there are also primary and secondary manganese oxide ores from certain sedimentary and hydrothermal deposits. The manganese minerals in manganese oxide ores are mainly duronite, pyrolusite and hydromanganite; the gangue minerals are mainly silicate and carbonate minerals, often accompanied by iron, phosphorus, nickel, cobalt and other components.

2 Manganese carbonate ore

The manganese minerals in sedimentary manganese carbonate ores mainly include rhodochrosite, rhodochrosite, manganese-containing calcite and rhodochrosite; gangue minerals include silicate and carbonate minerals, often accompanied by impurities such as sulfur and iron. The ores are generally complex, with manganese minerals embedded in particles as fine as microns and difficult to dissociate, making it often difficult to obtain higher concentrate grades.

Since most manganese ores are fine-grained or micro-grained and contain a considerable amount of high-phosphate ore, high-iron ore and co- (associated) beneficial metals, it is very difficult to sort.
