How Does Underground Gold Mining Work? Step-by-Step Mining Process

Underground gold mining is the primary exploitation method for vein gold and deep-seated hard rock gold deposits. Different from open-pit mining, underground gold mining requires systematic tunnel excavation, ore transportation, safety ventilation and controlled rock breaking, ensuring efficient and safe extraction of deep gold-bearing ore. The entire underground mining workflow follows standardized mining sequences, including exploration preparation, tunnel development, ore drilling and blasting, ore removal, transportation, and underground environmental management.

Before formal mining, geological exploration and roadway layout are completed to confirm the ore vein distribution, burial depth, rock stability and reserve scale. According to the ore body occurrence, main transportation tunnels, ventilation tunnels and working stopes are scientifically arranged to form a complete underground production and safety system. This preparation stage determines mining efficiency, safety level and overall production capacity of the mine.

The core underground mining procedure includes drilling, blasting and ore cutting. Workers use professional drilling equipment to arrange precise blast holes in stable ore zones. Controlled blasting technology is adopted to avoid damaging surrounding rock and reduce waste rock mixing, ensuring uniform ore particle size for subsequent processing.
